Longevity
Decades of Finnish sauna research link regular sauna use to dramatically reduced cardiovascular disease risk, improved cognitive function, and longer healthspan.
The Finnish research base
The Kuopio Ischemic Heart Disease study followed 2,315 Finnish men over 20 years and found that those who used a sauna 4–7 times per week had a 40% lower risk of cardiovascular mortality than those who used it once per week. This is among the strongest epidemiological data for any lifestyle intervention.
Heat shock proteins
Repeated heat stress triggers production of heat shock proteins — cellular repair mechanisms that protect against protein misfolding, which is implicated in Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and accelerated aging. Regular sauna use at 170°F+ consistently elevates HSP levels.
For Alaska specifically
Alaska has long, dark winters that suppress physical activity and vitamin D. A home sauna provides year-round cardiovascular and metabolic stimulus independent of outdoor conditions.
