How to Winterize Cold Plunge Tubs in Alaska
Water expands when it freezes, which can destroy pumps and chillers. These are the protocols for keeping your cold plunge running all winter or winterizing it safely.
Active winter operation (38°F - 45°F)
To keep your plunge active in an unconditioned garage, you must run the pump 24/7. Moving water does not easily freeze. We also add inline titanium heater loops that kick in if the water drops near 34°F.
Complete dry winterization
If leaving your property for the winter, you must blow out all internal plumbing lines with compressed air, drain the pump housing, and apply food-grade anti-freeze to the seals.
