Glass windows offer beautiful views but lose heat much faster than insulated wood walls. We explain how to calculate heat loss and size your heater accordingly.
The 'glass penalty' heater adjustment
For every square foot of uninsulated glass, you must add 1.2 cubic feet to your room volume calculation when sizing a heater. If you choose a full-glass front, you must spec a heater one size larger.
Tempered and double-pane standards
Never use standard residential glass, which will shatter under thermal stress. All our saunas utilize 8mm to 10mm tempered safety glass designed to handle 200°F temperature deltas.
